Sorvall ST1 Plus Series and Legend X1 Pro Series - Thermo Scientific SL1 Plus _ Multifuge X1 Pro Series_Megafuge ST1 Plus - Emergency Release Instructions Update

In case of a power failure, the centrifuge lid can't be opened electrically. Use the mechanical override for emergency access only after the rotor has stopped. Confirm the rotor is still, unplug the power, and locate the white plug on the left side. Pry out the plug, pull the release cord to open the lid, and retrieve samples. Secure the cord back, reinsert the plug, and restore power to reactivate the door locks.

Resolution

In the event of a power failure, the centrifuge lid cannot be opened using the regular electric lid release. A mechanical override is available for emergency sample recovery. This should only be used in emergencies and after the rotor has completely stopped. Please follow these steps carefully:

  1. Ensure the Rotor Has Stopped: Look through the view port in the lid to confirm that the rotor has come to a complete stop. Wait a few minutes as the braking process takes longer without power.

  2. Disconnect the Power Supply: Unplug the power supply to ensure safety.

  3. Access the Mechanical Release:

    • Locate the white plastic plug on the left side of the housing.
    • Use a screwdriver or knife to pry out the plug.
    • Pull the release cord attached to the plug to trigger the mechanical lid release. The lid will open, allowing you to remove the samples.
  4. Secure the Release Cord: Push the release cord back into the centrifuge and reinsert the plug.

  5. Restore Power and Reactivate Door Locks: Once power is restored, reconnect the centrifuge. Switch it on and press the OPEN key to reactivate the door locks.
