How to Troubleshoot a Neo that is Stuck in Preparing for Run State

This Vanquish Neo troubleshooting knowledgebase article explains what to look for and how to troubleshoot a Neo system that sits in Preparing for Run state and won't pick up sample to start the injection process. The article shows SII for Xcalibur as the Vanquish Neo control software, but a similar situation could happen  when using Chromeleon software to control the Vanquish Neo.

Issue

When starting a sequence, the LC starts the process but never transitions into the Run state so a sample is never picked up for analysis.  An example SII Audit Log is shown below.  The Neo system will stay in the state shown below in the SII Audit Trail, Wait Neo.SamplerModule.Sampler Ready etc for as long as you leave it there.

Open the Neo VSC User Interface to view the Column Compartment valve(s) positions. Each valve must have a valve position displayed with either   6-1 or 1-2 as seen in the figure below of a VSC User Interface:

If a valve doesn’t have a current valve position of either 1-2 or 6-1 displayed for it in the VCS User Interface, then any submitted sequences will not run. It doesn’t matter if the Column Compartment is being used to run samples or not. The Neo will sit in the “Inject Preparation” state if any column compartment valve doesn’t have a current valve position assigned to it.

Resolution

1.      Open SII Direct Control

2.      Press F8 to get SII Commands Prompt pop-up window as seen in the image below:

3.      Select ColumnCompartmentModule

4.      Scroll to each configured valve then under the Properties tab ensure that each valve’s CurrentPosition has either a 6_1 or 1_2 value.

5.      If any valve doesn’t have either a 6_1 or 1_2 value, click on the drop-down arrow to select one of these valve position values and press enter.

6.      Open the Neo VSC User Interface and confirm that each valve in the Column Compartment now has either a 1-2 or 6-1 position listed for it.

7.      Start a sequence to confirm the Neo Sampler will now pick up sample for analysis.
