DXR Raman Instrument driver not loading in Windows 11

Issue

If you install OMNIC for Dispersive Raman (OFDR) software onto an PC with Windows 11, after plugging in the instrument USB cable, the device manager doesn't show the system is installed properly.

An attempt to manually update the driver results in a message "A driver cannot load on this device.  A security setting may be preventing the driver from loading":

Environment

  • DXR2
  • DXR3
  • DXR3 Flex
  • SmartRaman DXR2
  • SmartRaman DXR3
  • OMNIC for Dispersive Raman

Resolution

Turn off the Memory Integrity setting in Windows 11 and reboot the computer.

  1. Click on the Windows Start menu and enter "Core Isolation".
  2. Click on "Core Isolation" to open Windows Security app.
  3. On the Core Isolation page, turn OFF the toggle for Memory Integrity.
  4. Reboot the PC.
  5. Device driver may load automatically, otherwise unplug the USB and reconnect it or try updating the driver again.

Analysis

To nagivate to this setting manually, select Start  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Security  > Device Security and then under Core isolation, selecting Core isolation details.

Cause

In Windows 11, this Memory Integrity setting is defaulted to be ON which may prevent the DXR drivers from loading to the correct COM port. (While in Windows 10 there is no such issue because the Memory Integrity setting is defaulted to be OFF in Windows 10.)
