How to set up Windows Dump Files to report OMNICxi failure mode
Issue:
How do you set up Windows dump files to report OMNICxi failure mode?
Environment:
- DXR3xi
- OMNICxi
Resolution:
- If it is OMNICxi 2.5 and Security Suite 2.4 (and above versions) installed on the current PC, then automatic dump file creation was already enabled:
Security Suite dump files go in %ProgramData%\Thermo Scientific\Security Suite\Dump Files
OMNICxi dump files go in %ProgramData%\Thermo\OMNICxi\Dump Files
Please send the dump files to us for failure analysis.
- If it is OMNICxi 2.4 or lower versions installed, and if you can easily repeat the major crashes when using the software, you may be able to generate a crash dump file following the instructions below.
1. Download the file: Dump File Creation.reg
2. Merge the Dump File Creation.reg file into the Windows registry by double-clicking on it
3. Open Windows Explorer and enter %ProgramData%\Thermo\OMNICxi in the address bar
4. Right-click in the folder and create a new folder named Dump Files
5. Restart OMNICxi
6. Duplicate the failure mode of OMNICxi crash. When the crash occurs, send the files in %ProgramData%\Thermo\OMNICxi\Dump Files to PSE.
NOTE: This .reg file only applies to OMNICxi.
It is safe to use on any DXR3xi in demo lab, including one with Data Security. Please send the dump files to us for failure analysis.
- A temporary work-around method to retrieve experiment data saved before the crash:
By design, the OMNICXi software saves data to a temp file as it goes. The home directory of the location of the temp file on the instrument is:
C:Users\Public\PublicDocuments\Thermo\OMNICxi
Please note that temp file should be called omnicxi_temporary.mapx.tmp
If the users stop their scan, they should navigate to that folder, and search for the temp file.
To find it the users can also use Windows explorer and search for *.*
Then duplicate that mapx.temp file and move the duplicate file to the spectra folder or another folder of their choosing. Then right click it and call it “sample_name.mapx”. They should then be able to open the mapx file as they normally would.
