ZnSe configuration (optional)

The information in this section is only pertinent if you purchased the Nicolet Apex spectrometer in the zinc selenide (ZnSe) configuration. If you purchased the more standard potassium bromide (KBr) configuration, skip ahead to the next section.

The non-hygroscopic ZnSe configuration for your instrument replaces the KBr sample compartment windows, beamsplitter, and detector window with ZnSe counterparts.

The ZnSe configuration comes at the modest cost of a 600 cm-1 cutoff (compared to 350 cm-1 cutoff with the KBr configuration), with the benefit of additional protection against high ambient humidity damage.

Avoid toxic inhalation and ingestion. Zinc selenide is toxic. Refer to the manufacturer's Safety Data Sheet at www.specac.com for handling and exposure controls.

Wear protective gloves when replacing the ZnSe sample compartment windows.
