Moving OMNIC data from old PC to new PC

To move OMNIC data to a new PC, copy the entire Omnic folder (including Spectra, Macros, Quant, Libs, Param, Reports) from C:\My Documents on the old computer to C:\My Documents on the new computer. Install OMNIC on the new PC first, then merge the folders rather than overwriting. Finally, open OMNIC and confirm you can open files from the Spectra folder to verify the transfer

Moving OMNIC data from old PC to new PC

Environment

  • Omnic

Resolution

This explains a simple way to move your OMNIC data folders (Spectra, Macros, Quant, Libs, Param, Reports) from one computer to another.

Note: You must install OMNIC on the new PC first. This only moves your data, not the program.

  1. On the old PC

    • Open File Explorer.

    • Go to: C:\My Documents\Omnic

    • Confirm you see folders like: Spectra, Macros, Quant, Libs, Param, Reports.

    • Right-click the Omnic folder and choose Copy.

    • Paste it to a USB drive, external drive, or network folder.

  2. On the new PC

    • Install and run OMNIC once, then close it.

    • Open File Explorer and go to: C:\My Documents

    • Open the Omnic folder there, and copy the subfolders (Spectra, Macros, Quant, Libs, Param, Reports) into C:\My Documents\Omnic on the new PC.

    • When Windows asks about duplicates, choose to merge folders and do not overwrite files if you are unsure.

  3. Check in OMNIC

    • Open OMNIC on the new PC.

    • Go to File → Open and browse to C:\My Documents\Omnic\Spectra.

    • Open a few files to confirm they work.

If the files open correctly, your data transfer is complete.
