OMNIC Software Shows a Windows Installer Message When Launched

Directions for fixing issues caused by windows update KB5065426 Omnic software shows a Windows installer message when launched

Issue

Windows update KB5065426 is interfering with the OMNIC Software. The update causes the OMNIC link to go into an installation window that does not allow the software to open.

Environment

  • OMNIC
  • OMNICxi
  • OMNIC Picta
  • OMNIC for Dispersive Raman
  • Windows 11

Resolution

Option 1:  Replacing the missing DLL file

The root cause of the problem is that the Windows 11 update removes a DLL file that is still needed by OMNIC.  Copying the missing DLL file back into the appropriate folder on the OMNIC computer will also fix the problem.

  1. Download the  below Missing CTL3D32.DLL for Windows 11.zip file and extract it.
  2. Copy this file back onto the OMNIC computer to the folder C:\Windows\SysWOW64.
  3. Open OMNIC to verify the program now opens without the Windows Installer message at startup.
Option 2: Reload the software

Find your current software media. This can be either files on your computer or a DVD that was sent to you by Thermo Fisher Scientific, but it needs to be a complete version of software and not an update disk. Please ensure that you are using the software media that matches your currently installed version. If you use an older version of software or a software update disk you may need to completely reinstall the latest version of software.

  1. If you need any assistance with these steps, including obtaining software, please reach out to Technical Support.
  2. Load the DVD into the computer or locate the digital files on your hard drive.
  3. Open the file package and find the setup application, setup.exe. There is no need to uninstall your current version of software.
  4. Follow the prompts to reinstall the software.
  5. Once the software is reinstalled the OMNIC software should open again.
Option 3: Repair the OMNIC Software

If you have the OMNIC fileset from when the software was last installed and you want to attempt to repair the software follow the steps below. This is typically more involved than reloading the software using Option 1.

  1. If you need any assistance with these steps, including obtaining software, please reach out to Technical Support.
  2. Load the CD into the computer or locate the files on your hard drive.
  3. Open control panel, change the "view by" to category.clipboard_e2442bfc4554115fcb1c2b042f9184a01.png

  9. Continue following the prompts until the repair is complete. Once the repair is complete you should be able to launch the OMNIC software.
