Resolution

Changing the Audit Log Service

A utility program is provided with the software to facilitate changing the service account and database configuration for the Thermo Scientific Audit Log service.  This utility program should be used in all cases.  Below are the steps to change the service account for the Audit Log Service.

  1.   Navigate to the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Thermo Scientific\Audit Log Service, and double click on the program "Configuration Utility.exe".
  2.   Enter the user name and password to open the utility program.
  3.   Click the Edit button to bring up the dialog box to enter a new service account and password.  Click Ok to return to the main window.

  1.   Close the utility program with the x in the upper right corner.
  2.   Verify that the service account has been updated in the Services window and the service is running.
Changing the File Change Monitor and Secure Data Storage Services

These two services do not have a utility program to change the service account, so the change needs to be made directly in the service properties.  As part of this process the folder permissions on the secure data storage service also need to be updated to include the new service account with Full Control permissions.  Failure to update the folder permissions will result in the software not being able to correctly save files to the secure folder.

  1.   Open the Services window by clicking on the Windows Start menu and typing in Services.  The Services app should be the best match.
  2.   Scroll down the list of services to find the Thermo Scientific File Change Monitor and Thermo Scientific Secure Data Storage services

  1.   Select one of the services, right click on it, and choose Stop from the popup menu.  Repeat for the second service.
  2.   Double click on the Thermo Scientific File Change Monitor service to open the Properties dialog box for the service.
  3.   Select the Log On tab.

  1.   Either enter the new account name or use the Browse button to select the new account.
  2.   Enter the password for this account in the two password boxes.
  3.   Click Apply.  A message may show that says the account has been granted "Log on as a service" permissions.
  4.   Click Ok.
  5.   Repeat steps 4 through 9 for the Thermo Scientific Secure Data Storage Service
  6.   Once the account has been updated, restart both services.

The secure storage folder where data is being saved, needs to have the new service account added to the folder permissions with Full Control.  This needs to be done for the Secure Storage folder itself and all sub-folders.   Contact IT support for help changing folder permission or refer to pages 9 to 13 in Security Suite Guide for help.
