Capillary Tubing Disconnects from Mixing Y at High Pump Speeds

Fix for capillary tubing disconnecting from the mixing Y on iCAP systems during high pump speed operation, including tubing modification steps to prevent leaks.

Issue

Capillary disconnects from the mixing Y when the pump operates at high speed, causing leaks.

Environment

  • iCAP 7000 Series
  • iCAP PRO Series
  • Nebulizer
  • Capillary tubing
  • Mixing Y
  • Peristaltic pump tubing

Resolution

  1. Remove the existing pump tubing from the mixing Y where the nebulizer capillary tubing connects.
  2. Cut a small section (~1–2 cm) from an Orange/White pump tube.
  3. Install the cut section of pump tubing onto the mixing Y securely.
  4. Cut the end of the capillary tubing with a straight cut (do not use a 45-degree angle).
  5. Grip the capillary tubing using a glove or sandpaper to improve handling.
  6. Push the capillary tubing into the pump tubing until it is inserted approximately 6 mm (¼ inch).
  7. Verify:
    • Run the pump at high speed
    • Confirm the tubing remains securely connected
    • Ensure no leaks are present

Cause

Insufficient mechanical grip between the capillary tubing and the mixing Y connection leads to disconnection under increased pressure at high pump speeds.
