Carbon Build Up ICAP OES

Issue

Carbon Build Up ICAP OES.

Environment

  • ICAP 6000 SERIES
  • ICAP 7000 SERIES
  • ICAP PRO

Resolution

When running organics carbon can build up on the torch, center tube, and nozzle.  There are a few options to help resolve this.  Below are those options.

OPTION 1

·        Applications says the RF Power should be between 1300-1400.

·        The Aux Gas should be 1.5, for anything greater than 20% organic

·        Cool gas should be changed from 12 to a recommended of 14 - 15.

·        Should optimize neb flow...Qtegra will do it, can verify by Y-bullet procedure

·        Start up in organics, 2PPM zinc in your organic matrix

·        The Qtegra icon on the dashboard for organic matrix will do a torch alignment.  Needs to be in 2PPM Zinc made up your organic matrix.

OPTION 2

You will need three tubing on your perri pump,

1.      Drain

2.      Autosampler

3.      Internal standard……this will be your air line that the perri pump will regulate.  You want to use a very small tubing (blue / orange tabs)  instead of pumping an internal standard your pumping Air.  We don’t stock just the blue/orange you have to get the whole kit.  So you might want to find an outside vendor, like CETAC or ESI for this.

OPTION 3

If you have an iCAP PRO XP or XPS.  An additional mass flow controller comes standard with those models.

If you have an ICAP 6000 OR 7000 series.  The factory warned against attaching an O2 to those unites.  Therefore, you options are just 1 and 2 listed above.
