Flash Up LED for iCAP 6000 Series

Issue

Error 517#: Autobias failure due to timeout - check flash up LED at rear of polychromator while replacing the flashup LED (p/n 4301 1722 3121) at the rear of the spectrometer

Environment

  • iCAP 6500 Radial
  • iCAP 6500 Dual
  • iCAP 6300 Radial
  • iCAP 6300 Dual
  • iCAP 6200 Dual
  • iTEVA

Resolution

Refer to these notes to replace the flashup LED at the rear of the spectrometer:

stored or autobias When this entry is set to stored, the fixed pattern for the full-frame image is acquired the first time a full-frame image is acquired after embedded controller reset. This fixed pattern image is stored in controller RAM and subtracted from every subsequent full-frame image. In tis manner, the user need not incur the overhead associated with acquiring the fixed pattern image every time a full-frame picture is requested. This process works as expected on most systems. However, occasionally the fixed patter image is not consistent over time, and the result is cosmetically flawed images. Most often, the cosmetic flaw is identified as "high background". When the pattern correction routine is working properly, the background pixel values in a black region of the image should range between 10 and 40 counts. Typical calibrators and users will complain of a "high background" problem when these black background signals rise above 80 counts. In this case, it is often possible to correct the flaw by setting this entry to autobias. With this setting, the algorithms acquire a new fixed pattern image for every full-frame picture.
