Loss of intensity for radially viewed elements
Issue
Loss of intensity for radially-viewed elements

Resolution
It is advisable to clean the radial view window each time that the torch is cleaned as a preventive measure. Alternatively, this window should be cleaned when intensities for radially viewed wavelengths have dropped.
To clean the window, first remove the torch. Next rotate the radial window gently while lifting. Once the window is removed, it can be cleaned by:
a) Rinsing with ACS grade iso-propyl alcohol. Do this two or three times.
b) For stubborn deposits, soak in cold nitric acid, (1 +1 with DI water) or soak in cold aqua regia (1 +1 with DI water) for approximately 2 hours. Rinse thoroughly with DI water. Dry the window by rinsing with ACS grade iso-propyl alcohol or by using a stream of low pressure nitrogen or argon.
The radial window will require regular cleaning due to its location beneath the torch.
