Manually Light Plasma-ICAP PRO

Issue

For plasma diagnostic purposes, it is sometimes necessary to manually light the plasma on the ICAP PRO via the Qtegra Service Application.

Environment

Resolution

  1.  With Service App open and connected to instrument, click on the Hardware Control tab
    Set PS 35-Crop.png
  2. Select PlasmaControl

  3. Set RF Power Supply Voltage in V to 35. Note the readback will not change, this is just the set point for now

  4. Select GasFlowControl

  5. Set Nebulizer Gas Flow to 0.00, Auxillary Gas Flow  to 0.50, and Coolant Gas Flow to 12.00

  6. Select InstrumentControl

  7. Ensure that the water flow is higher than 2 l/min. RF Generator Cooling and Main Water Valve should be toggled on

  8. Toggle RF Power Supply Enable; check to make sure the readback matches the setpoint of 35 V

  9. Toggle RF Generator Enable

  10. Toggle RF Generator Ignite; note after the plasma lights this will toggle back off

  11. Check to see if plasma has lit and that the read-backs for RF Power Supply Voltage and Current are normal, and the plasma is stable

  12. To extinguish the plasma, toggle RF Power Supply Enable to OFF position.
