Plasma going out with D torch

Issue

The plasma ignites with D-torch installed but goes out a few seconds after ignition

Environment

  • iCAP PRO Series

Resolution

1. Remove the 3 x screws which secure the internal torch cage and remove it by sliding over the work coil, being careful not to touch the coil

2. Check the alignment of the 2nd light guide. There should be a distance of 58mm +/- 1mm from the left hand side of the torch box area to the entrance for the light of the 2nd light guide.

If this distance is off, it can easily be adjusted back into specification by bending the air flow baffle where the light guide is attached to.

Analysis

The plasma stays lit without any issues when using the quartz torch

Cause

There is not enough light from the 2nd light guide being detector in order to assess if the plasma has ignited or not. This 2nd light guide is only used in reference to the D-torch
