Issue

Torch melted

Environment

  • iCAP 6000 Series

Resolution

  1.  Check that the torch was properly aligned in the torch holder
    Torch Insertion into Torch Holder.jpg
  2. Check that the torch holder has all the o-rings in place; especially the 2 small outside o-rings

    1. If o-rings are missing or damaged, replace the o-rings and insert a new torch, and try again
      1. The new torch is not melting-> issue is resolved
      2. The new torch melted, recheck the above steps. If the torch is properly aligned, and all of the o-rings are in place, call technical support at 1-800-532-4752; option 2, option 7.

Cause

If any o-ring is missing or the torch is misaligned, it will cause incorrect gas flow, which can lead to the plasma not forming correctly, and the torch over heating and melting. Likewise, if the o-rings are in place and the torch is aligned properly the issue is going to be a gas box failure. If the gas box is failing to provide to proper gas flow the plasma will not form correctly and can cause the torch to melt.
