Checking make-up gas flow on FID detector module

To resolve the issue of no make-up gas flow (Nitrogen) on the FID detector module in a Trace 1300, ensure the Nitrogen gas line is connected to the GC gas inlet and the supply is at least 5 bars. Verify the make-up gas is turned on in the instrument method or control panel. Use a flowmeter to check for Nitrogen flow at the top of the detector module. If no flow is detected, check if the FID jet is clogged. Refer to the attached figures for additional guidance.

Issue

No make up gas flow (Nitrogen) on FID detector module.

Environment

  • Trace 1300

Resolution

  1. Check if the Nitrogen gas line is connected to the GC gas inlet.
  2. Check if the Nitrogen gas supply is at least 5 bars.
  3. Check in the instrument method or on the instrument control panel if the make up gas is on.
  4. Check with a flowmeter if the Nitrogen flow can be measured at the top of the detector module. If not check if the FID jet is not clogged.
