IC Columns, Bed Supports and Zitex Membranes

Issue

When removing the bed support at the outlet of the column, a white film/membrane is observed.

Environment

Some IC columns

Resolution

When high pressure is observed that can be attributed to a column set, it may be necessary to replace the inlet bed support of the column. There should never be a need to replace the outlet bed support, but it is especially  important not to disturb the Zitex membrane on the outlet of some IC columns. This is needed for proper performance. The function of this membrane is to catch fine particles and keep them from flowing further into the system. It is found on the outlet side of the column only, before the bed support.

The picture below shows the inlet side of a column, which has a spot to use a wrench. This end should never have a Zitex membrane.
