Installing a New Suppressor
Issue
Most customers don’t know or do not properly follow the instructions on how to properly prepare and install suppressor. Suppressors require proper flushing of the flow path and hydrating suppressors before putting it to use. Suppressors require proper measuring of the backpressure of detector cell, backpressure coils, and the suppressor itself. The suppressor leaks and/or underperforms.
Environment
Ion Chromatography
Resolution

Step 1: Before installing suppressor, flush the column to waste for 10 min.
Step 2: Then connect the column outlet to detector cell and flush for another 10 min. Check to make sure that the backpressure across the column and detector cell is < 50 psi.
Step 3: Connect enough backpressure coils to the outlet of the detector cell and measure the backpressure. For carbonate eluent, it should be 30-40 psi; for other eluents, it should be 10-40 psi.
Step 4: Connect the column outlet to the suppressor eluent inlet and flush the suppressor eluent outlet directly to waste for 20 min.
Step 5: Allow the suppressor to rest for 20 min to fully hydrate the resin, screens, and membranes.
