Integrion Internal Hardware Failure Code 9
Integrion Internal Hardware Failure Code 9
Issue
When an Integrion instrument is powering up, Chromeleon displays Code 9: Internal Hardware Failure. The error may prevent the user from proceeding. The error can be related to the real-time clock backup battery on the main CPU PCB or to a device on the shared I2C communication bus affecting communication.
Environment
- Integrion HPIC System
- Chromeleon CDS
- Main CPU PCB
- Real-time clock backup battery
- Column compartment assembly
- Detector interconnect PCB
- Leak detector assembly
- I2C communication bus devices
Resolution
Review the audit trail. If there are other errors associated with the Code 9, focus on those components first. Refer to the examples listed below.
Battery related issue
If the real-time clock is suspected, replace the main board. The real-time clock must be reset after battery replacement. This procedure cannot be done in the field.
Column compartment related errors
If the Code 9 is coupled with column compartment errors (i.e. RFID, etc), suspect the column compartment ribbon cable, board or the column compartment itself.
Detector compartment related errors
If the Code 9 is coupled with detector compartment errors (i.e. detector compartment temperature, etc), suspect the detector interconnect PCB.
Leak detector related errors
If Code 9 is coupled with leak detector related errors:
- Inspect the leak detector for physical damage.
- Disconnect the leak detector and determine whether Code 9 and related errors clear.
- If the errors clear, replace the defective leak detector assembly.
Electrolytic board failure
Check electrolytic boards for red fault LEDs.
Analysis
Code 9 is generated when the Integrion firmware cannot confirm that the real-time clock is advancing. The same error may occur if a device on the shared I2C communication bus interferes with communication. Related faults may include column temperature sensor errors, RFID errors, detector compartment temperature errors, ambient temperature sensor errors, or leak sensor errors.
Cause
Some examples of root cause are a failed or depleted real-time clock backup battery, an unprogrammed real-time clock, a column compartment ribbon cable connection issue, a column temperature sensor issue, a detector interconnect PCB issue, or a leak detector short affecting I2C bus communication.
