Using OMNIC Paradigm software microscopy features

OMNIC Paradigm software allows you capture mosaics, where you define background points and regions for analysis, as well as measure areas, lines, and individual sampling points.

To measure areas, lines, and sampling points, you must:

  • Capture a mosaic. A mosaic is a visual image of a sample made up of a series of small, high-resolution images stitched together into a single, large image of the sample surface.
    • In the Dashboard, select Autofocus before capture to automatically illuminate the sample and bring it into focus.
    • Select a location from the Mosaic Capture list to capture the mosaic automatically when you start the session, or select Custom Mosaic to start without automatically collecting a mosaic.
    • Select Start Session to collect a mosaic.
  • Measure a background spectrum. You must measure a background spectrum before collecting data. The microscope's sample holder features built-in reference points to use for your sample measurements.
    • Use the Background tool to select the point where you want to measure the background.
    • Select Accept Background when satisfied (or select a better background location before measuring data).
    • Select Measure Background to collect the spectrum. When complete, it is added to the Spectra tab under the Background tab.
  • Specify areas, lines, and points to analyze. You can do this by using the Area, Line, and Point tools in the software. When finished, click Sample, then open the Region Queue to view and refine the details as needed. You can also select a background measurement to associate with each region.
