Issue

Time-out message and laser out of specification error in Omnic software. Possible laser failure

Environment

• Nicolet iS50 
• Nicolet iN10
• Nicolet iN10MX

Resolution

Verify operation of laser by checking laser current in Omnic software under Collect pull down Menu then open Experiment Setup and select the Diagnostic Tab . You can then click the Blue HeNe button that will show you the live laser current read out. The check mark by laser current maybe green even if the laser has started to fail. The normal current should be around 0.40 to 0.80 if it is lower than 0.40 or not 100 % stable the laser has failed. The laser may be still visible in the sample compartment if the laser current is not stable this will cause the system to work intermittently. 

Cause

HeNe Laser has failed and needs to be replaced.
