Error On Startup of Picta Software - Object Reference Not Set to an Instance of an Object

Issue

When opening the Picta software, an error message shows up that states "Object Reference Not Set to an Instance of an Object".  Clicking continue allows Picta to open normally and the software does not seem to have any problems.

Environment

Nicolet iN10

OMNIC Picta

Resolution

There are different ways to correct this problem.

  1. Open Picta and on the View and Collect menu, clear the default experiment so that no experiment files are loaded on startup.
  2. Delete the corrupted experiment file and create a new one from scratch.  Then use the new experiment file as the default to load on startup.
  3. If using the default_picta.picta file, delete the file from the C:\my documents\omnic\param\ folder and then copy the same file from C:\my documents\omnic\param\factory\ back into the Param folder.

Cause

This error is caused by a corrupted experiment file which has been set as the default to load on startup.

A similar message can happed if the user tries to open a corrupted experiment file when Picta is already open.
