RPG Reports 2.x Versus RPG Reports 3.x Version Usage

Description: 

  1. This article explains when Field Service Representatives (FSR's) should use either the legacy RPG Reports version 2.x,  or the  newly enhanced 3.x version of RPG Reports for customer Qualification work.
  2. How to acquire and perform the initial installation of either core version of RPG Reports.
  3. How to update RPG Reports 3.x versions. 

Environment:

  • Regulatory Products Group (RPG) supported instrument and software qualifications for: LC/MS, GC/MS, IC/MS, Molecular Spectroscopy (including UV-Vis), or LPD based qualifications
  • Installation on FSR computers
  • Running from USB Stick on customer Instrument computers

Prerequisites:

RPG Sync is a tool that synchronizes qualification materials, and other selected content (Including RPG Reports), to FSR computers per an automated schedule. Please refer to the RPG Tools KB RPG Sync knowledge articles for acquiring and installing the latest version of RPG Sync.  The link is provided below.

RPG Reports 2.x

Getting the EXE

The RPG Reports 2.x executable is automatically downloaded via RPG Sync. You can verify by expanding the ULS-ORG-0079 organizer under the Content folder of RPG Sync. The highlighted file is the executable for RPG Reports (ver 2.058 at the time of writing) and will be copied by the synchronization process to your RPG Sync folder. The reccommended location for synchronization is C:\Users\Public\Documents\RPG Sync.

Content in the ULS-ORG-0079 organizer is placed into the \ULS Regulatory Products Group\Bin sub-folder of your RPG Sync file location.

Creating Storage Media

In most cases RPG Reports 2.x can be run from a USB stick.  The RPG Sync tool has a Storage Media creation option that will copy the selected qualification files for the selected technique to a USB stick.

  1. Ensure you have an empty USB stick inserted into the computer where RPG Sync is running.
  2. Click on Storage Media
  3. Select your USB drive
  4. Select your content
  5. Click Update Media Drive

  1. Files will begin to download. You will be prompted when the process is complete.

 

Running RPG sync 2.x

7. Open your USB stick in Windows File Explorer and browse to the \Bin directory.

  1. Launch RPG Reports 2.x and load your license key located in the \XML directory.

Please Note:  RPG Reports 2.x can NOT be upgraded! Only downloaded and launched.

RPG Reports 3.x

Getting the EXE

Via RPG Sync

The RPG Reports 3.x executable is automatically downloaded via RPG Sync. You can verify by expanding the ULS-ORG-0079 organizer under the Content folder of RPG Sync. The highlighted file is the executable for RPG Reports (ver 3.08 at the time of writing) and will be copied by the synchronization process to your RPG Sync folder. The reccommended location for synchronization is C:\Users\Public\Documents\RPG Sync.

 

The Installer is placed into the \ULS Regulatory Products Group\Bin\PRE-RELEASE sub-folder of your RPG Sync file location.

  • Run the Installer EXE highlighted above.

  2. Run the Installer EXE.
  3. Follow the prompts

Upgrading RPG Reports 3.x

  1. Launch RPG Reports 3.
  2. Navigate to the Help menu item.
  3. Click Check for Updates.
  4. Follow the prompts.
