Vacuum degasser failure

Issue

Vacuum degasser failure

Environment

Ion Chromatography

Resolution

Before directly changing the Vacuum Degasser check following items:

  1. Degasser module in ICS Pumps contains the degassing chambers, the vacuum pump and the degasser controller board.
  2. Observe abnormal noise. In normal operation Vacuum Degasser is quiet. When vacuum pump is running, the operating noise is very low.
  3. Check status in Chromeleon. Go to Pump instrument panel, click F8, with right click change mode level to Expert, select Pump, choose Degasser and turn the degasser off and on again to continue. After few minutes check status at Degaser Vacuum mode if will change (Not OK to OK).
  4. Observe any error in audit trail (Degasser malfunction, Vacuum not ok) and proceed to next steps.
  5. Rinse the degassing channels with fresh prepared solvents to avoid contamination of the degasser (Pure water) Residues may have collected in the vacuum pump due to a defective degassing chamber.
  6. Clean the solvent supply lines especially if lines is not used long time or if there is any crystalline or algae.
  7. Inspect degasser chamber and vacuum pump of any spillage or damage.
  8. Check tubing connected to the degasser chambers to the vacuum pump. PharaMed (yellow) tubing. It must not be bent or perforated.
  9. If all previous steps not solve the problem then replace degasser chamber.
  10. If the error persists, replace vacuum degas pump.
  11. If the error persists, replace power supply.
