OMNIC Closes After Scan Number 4 When Collecting a Spectrum

OMNIC may crash after four scans if the background file path and name exceed 100 characters. Reducing the total length resolves the issue when using a specified stored background file.

Issue

OMNIC software will crash or close when collecting a sample spectrum after getting through four (4) scans.

Environment

OMNIC

Resolution

Check if the option for "Use specified background file" is being used under the Background Handling on the Collect tab of Experiment Setup.

OMNIC has a known issue when using the stored background if the total number of characters for the path plus filename is longer than 100 characters.  When this is the case, OMNIC will get through 4 scans and then close unexpectedly.

To prevent this from happening, use a path and filename that is less than 100 characters.  This can be done by shortening the file name, or using a less complicated path (i.e. fewer subfolders).
