Cetac Ultra Sonic Nebulizer connection to iCAP 6000 series instruments

Issue

Is there a connector or interface kit for connecting the Cetac Ultrasonic Nebulizer (USN) to the iCAP 6000 series instruments?

Environment

  • iCAP 6500 Radial
  • iCAP 6500 Dual
  • iCAP 6300 Radial
  • iCAP 6200 Dual

Connecting the Nebulizer Carrier Gas

Connect the Nebulizer carrier gas from the ICP instrument to
the U-5000AT+ using the ARGON IN connector and
3/16" ID Tygon tubing.

Note:
Some ICPs utilize a pressure switch on the argon Nebulizer gas that will not allow the user to reduce the pressure enough to get the 0.7 L/min. flow required by the U-5000AT+. With these ICPs, it is necessary to use an auxiliary flow restrictor between the Nebulizer gas supply and the U-5000AT+ ARGON IN connector for control of the Nebulizer argon flow.
This flow restrictor will be provided by CETAC when necessary.

See USN back panel connections at right.

Refer to the U-5000AT Ultrasonic Nebulizer Operator Manual for more information.

Possible Adaptation 1

Connect directly to the 6mm QC fitting at the iCAP's gas manifold (removing the 4mm Check Valve to 6mm Nebulizer gas adaptor at the gas manifold output) and run 6mm gas tubing all the way from the nebulizer gas out which then fits firmly into 5/16 OD tygon (short coupling piece) to this USN's carrier inlet barb fitting w/restrictor (SP5156B). Or visa-versa use a short coupling piece of 6mm at gas box adapt and run 5/16 OD tygon all the way to the USN's carrier inlet barb fitting w/restrictor (SP5156B). The USN output 5/16 OD tygon tubing then goes to the Torch via teflon Torch Adaptor 430116621851.

See figure depicting this adaptation.

Possible Adaptation 2

Glass Expansion's EL-1  EzyLoc Kit with 4mm QC Union Fitting with 6mm hose adaptor barb that will fit and "bite" a little into the 5/16 OD tygon tubes ID but the 1/4 hose "Snapper" clip (Cole-Parmer # E-06832-01 .228-.256 ID) is too small for the 5/16 OD tygon tube and the next size "Snapper" clip (Cole-Parmer # E-95614-00 .269-.291 ID) or clamp is needed to best seal the tubing to this fitting. Using a couple small tie wraps rotated opposite each other might also work. Then, of course, the 4mm QC fitting could be used to connect to the standard 4mm neb gas tubing instead of removing the Check Valve at the 6mm Neb. gas output at the gas manifold. Then run 5/16 OD tygon all the way to the USN's carrier inlet barb fitting w/restrictor (SP5156B). The USN output 5/16 OD tygon tubing then goes to the Torch via teflon Torch Adaptor 430116621851.

See figure depicting this adaptation.

Ordering Parts

At this time we do not stock the "Snapper" clip or clamp that is needed to best seal the tubing to this fitting. nor the QC fitting barb, but Cole-Parmer P/N # E-95614-00 .269-.291 ID and from GE is EL-1 EzyLok Kit can be ordered from each of them.

The EL-1 EzyLok Kit comprises:
• 1 x EzyLok Connector for 4mm Tubing
• 1 x EzyLok 6mm hose adaptor
• 1 x Hose Clip

Cetac also has an interface kit for legacy ICP's that will provide most of the adaptation to the iCAP 6000, SP5155CC which also contains a glass torch adaptor tube that can be used in place of the teflon 430116621851 Adaptor - hydride generation kit (for 3/16 - 1/4" or 4.7 - 6mm ID tubing). Refer to the CETAC Operator Accessories and Supplies Catalog for more information.
