Carryover with ASXpress

Issue

Carryover issues when using an ASXpress. The same principle would apply to the Sprint Valve on an iCAP 7600

Environment

  • ASXpress
  • iCAP 7600

Resolution

1. Open Configurator

2. Click on Experiment Configurator applet

3. Locate configuration with the autosamper, left -click on triangle next to the name of the configuration to list the plugins contained within the configuration and right-click on Autosampler plugin (i.e. ASX-560) and select Edit settings

4. Set Extra Loop Rinse to True

5. Add up the Loop Rinse Delay and Loop Evacuation Delay and Increase the Uptake Time in the LabBook by this amount

Note: For example in step 4, the Loop Rinse Delay is 3.5s and the Loop Evacuation Delay is 2s which equates to 5.5s. The Uptake Time of 79.5s was increased to 85s to accommodate for the extra Loop Rinse.

Analysis

With the Probe rinse, only the autosampler probe and associated capillary tubing is getting washed

With the Extra loop rinse, the loop itself is getting rinsed. As an additional benefit, since the valve is in Load position, when this Extra Loop rinse is being done, the nebulizer and spray chamber will also get some additional rinse time from the carrier/rinse line.

Cause

Extra Loop Rinse is helpful because the loop and associated capillary tubing comes into direct contact with the sample matrix since the sample is being loaded into it and therefore it is helpful to allow some additional time to wash out any residual solution that may be left
